Make holiday cards
Holiday cards; birthday cards, Christmas cards, Mother's Day cards, thank-you notes; are one of the best uses for multi-part capture. The front, inside message, and any decorations stay together as one creation, and the child can record a voice note that plays when someone opens it.
Why use multi-part capture
A handmade card has more than one side. The front shows the design, the inside holds the message, and sometimes there are details worth keeping; a sticker border, a pop-up element, the envelope decorated just right. Multi-part capture keeps all of it together instead of scattering it across the gallery.
Getting started
On the Create tab, tap "More ways to create", then choose "Add more parts".
Step by step
1. Tell us about the whole card
Before the first capture, the child can explain the card in one voice note:
"This is a birthday card for Grandma. I drew flowers on the front and wrote Happy Birthday inside."
This plays at the start, like hearing the child introduce their card. It is optional and can be re-recorded.
2. Capture the front
The first part is the gallery cover, so start with the front of the card; the side that shows the design. Lay it flat with even light and tap the shutter. The child can retake it with "Try again" if the angle is off.
3. Add the inside message
Turn the card and capture the inside. After this capture, the child can record a voice note just for this part; reading the message out loud. This per-part voice note is separate from the whole-creation note, so the inside message can be heard on its own.
4. Capture details and decorations
If the card has a 3D element, a pop-up, or a special texture, add those as extra parts. A close-up of a sticker border, a capture of the card standing up, or a shot of the decorated envelope; each becomes its own part in the sequence.
5. Review and reorder
Tap "Done adding parts" to review. The front should be first (the cover), followed by the inside and any details. Parts can be moved earlier or later with labeled buttons.
6. Name it and save
Add a name in Details; "Grandma's Birthday Card," "Christmas Card 2026," "Thank You, Teacher"; then save. The card appears in the gallery with the front as the cover and all parts accessible through Previous/Next controls.
Building a holiday card collection
Create a space called "Holiday Cards" or "Cards" to group all the cards the child makes over the year. A child can suggest the space from the Spaces tab; a grown-up approves it. Every card saved after that can live inside the space.
At the end of the year, the space becomes a complete record of every card; birthday, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Teacher Appreciation; all in one place.
One card per creation. Even if a card has five sides or details, they belong together in one multi-part creation.
Voice notes make cards come alive. Recording the inside message means the recipient hears the child's actual voice reading it, not just seeing the handwriting.
The front is the cover. Whatever part is first in the review becomes the gallery thumbnail, so always put the front design first.
Old cards can be added too. If the family has physical cards from past years, a grown-up can capture them all at once with the Add many at once feature and save them in the Cards space.
